Upgrading of the SCADA System

The previous SCADA system had been in operation from 2003 and had been running on 3 independent servers. No hardware or software upgrades have been performed on the system since inception, the documentation on the system was almost non-existent and Midvaal Water has lost its expertise level on the SCADA System with the tragic death of the previous Engineering Manager during 2006.

The SCADA system forms the heart of the Control and Monitoring of all the operations and it was therefore decided to upgrade the system such that the Company that provided theSCADA software, will form the expertise support level to the system and that a generalist support level for the system will be developed in-house.

The upgraded system now runs on two servers, configured to provide full system redundancy, in case any of the servers fail.
