The Company makes significant investments in refurbishing its ageing plant and equipment in order to keep the infrastructure in prime condition for an uninterrupted water supply. The Company had already upgraded its East/West Filter Block during 2003 to increase the efficiency of the filters and reduce operating costs. However, due to the fact that the capacity of the East/West filter block has become inadequate to meet the peak demand, investigations were undertaken to enhance filtration capacity. It was decided to refurbish the North Filters at a cost of R47 million which will provide adequate capacity to meet the current and future demand until 2020 and also provide scope for optimal utilization of the East/West filter block.
